It’s been a while since I vowed Men in Yoga, sorry, I got caught up in summer. We have a guest teacher joning us in Morocco, Stefan Schwarze, guiding Tai-Sho Daruma. The exercises have been practiced for more than a thousand years by monks in the Buddhist temples of China, essentially to keep their bodies young as they aged. The system augments Chi breathing patterns and rigourous floor calisthenics build the body’s strength, finishing with a deep tissue stretching session. I am going to try it while I’m in Morocco because I want to stay looking young forever, let you know more when I get back.

Don’t miss the New York Surf Film Festival this weekend. I’d normally be at Montauk but I’ve had an endless parade of guests lately. I’m planning to catch Surfing 50 States tomorrow at 3pm. Two crazy, cute Aussies ride the USA.

The Endless Summer by Bruce Brown is a classic that I can watch over and over and over. Check the beginning of the clip below, that’s also what I intend to do when I’m in Morocco. Just not sure what to wear in case I wipe out on the sand. And listen up, we have two spots left for our retreat to Morocco Oct 25-Nov 1. Check the Schedule page of the website for more info and photos, or email if you have any questions.

I’m back from Montauk, and we had a very successful benefit for East End Global Mala yesterday. Thank you to all those who donated, participated and helped us last minute. I have no photos at this time as the battery died and the charger is m.i.a. but I’ll showcase on our Facebook page soon and a few here, too. Fresh has raised enough money this summer to start the process of becoming a non-profit so hurray! Lauren and I hope to get the program started next summer.

Is it too soon to talk about our winter/spring 2010 retreat? No! It will certainly get me through the upcoming winter just thinking about it and planning more around it. We’re heading to Matapalo in the Osa Peninsula, southern Costa Rica for 7 days/7 nights. It’s Lauren’s annual retreat, I’ve actually been there once, in the rainy season but we had surf every single day. There’s a variety of breaks to suit every level of surfer. And of course, yoga twice-daily, led by Lauren and her friend Tracy Mohr. This jungle beach prides itself as not being developed.
