The 2nd Annual East End Global Mala benefit is coming up Saturday, September 18th at Ditch Plains 4pm. Lauren Hanna of Liquid Yoga + Surf and Sonic Yoga will lead East End yoga studios Ananda, Kama Deva, Love, Mandala, One Ocean, Sangha, Tapovana Ashtanga and Yoga Shanti in support of the Global Mala Project, initiated by teacher, friend, and catalyst, Shiva Rea. Three years ago, Shiva had a vision to unite the global yoga community to promote peace on our planet. Her belief in the power of the collective consciousness was the spark for the creation of the Global Mala Project. All proceeds go to The East End Foundation and The Fresh Foundation. The Gulf spill is not only hitting the environment hard, it’s creating hardships on the Gulf surfing community as well. Local surf shop owners are reporting as much as an 80% decline in business during what should be the start of the summer tourist season. Surfers themselves are finding the situation no less difficult as the oil continues to foul one beach after another as it makes its way to Florida.


There’s nothing more comfortable in the summer then the flip flop. Reef makes the most comfortable flip flop. Ridiculously Comfortable as Reef puts it.

Liquid Yoga + Surf has updated it’s Summer schedule. Ode to the Avocado & other news! Surfcat is now producing Retreats for other studios and teachers, or trips for private parties that focus on yoga, surfing or another sport of interest, or cooking? First up this spring is Sabina Stahl’s Yoga + Intuitive Cooking Retreat in East Hampton May 21-23. Not only is Sabina an amazing yoga teacher but she’s also an incredible cook who has taught me a thing or two especially this non-sugar chocolate mousse. It has one main ingedient, a beautifully ripe avocado (a good fat) and can be made in five minutes: one ripe avocado, 1 tbsp cocao powder, and a few drops of stevia for sweetner (or honey). You can also add a little shredded coconut, ground cardamom, a little salt and a little vanilla rice milk or soy milk. A cusinart is needed to whip the ingredients together, and that’s it. No one will believe this mousse was made with an avocado. It’s heaven.
