LONG WEEKEND RETREAT AT RINCON
November 18-21, 2010
Yoga + Surfing with Adi Carter
Casa Islena, Rincon, Puerto Rico
This Retreat is a long weekend escape to yoga and wellness through asana, pranayama, meditation and surfing on the North Coast of Rincon. Wake up to the sounds of the sea and start the day with yoga, breakfast, and surf lessons; surf some more, relax or explore the rest of the day until we wind down with a lighter pre-sunset yoga class and dinner.
Casa Islena is a former oceanfront home turned hotel with views of Aguadilla Bay and Mona Passage. It was renovated with Spanish architecture and colors of the Caribbean. With only 9 rooms, this hotel retains a calm atmosphere. The oceanfront pool is a great place to relax any time of the day.
Rincon means corner or niche in Spanish, a perfect description for being located in the northwest corner of Puerto Rico where the Atlantic meets the Caribbean Sea. There are four major areas to Rincon: North Coast (Casa Islena), South Coast, Rincon’s Downtown and the South Caribbean Coast. Surfing is what made Rincon famous. Discovered by surfers, this laid-back beach community is heavily influenced by surfing.
Yoga Adi Carter, a yogi and surfer, will lead twice-daily yoga at Casa Islena. Adi will lead a morning vinyasa class before breakfast and restorative session at the end of the day before dinner. She will also introduce The Slack Line Series that she is known for.
Slack Line Series is a unique practice that redefines your sense of balance and mental focus, also known as Slackasana, by doing yoga poses on a slackline. A slackline is a 1″ thick piece of tubular webbing that is tied between two stationary objects so that you are suspended in the air (see pic of Adi below).
Surfing is optional and not included in the Retreat package. Two-hour group lessons cost $70 a day (includes instruction, surfboard and transportation) and will be organized by Liquid Yoga + Surf. Even though the water is a warm 80 degrees a day, rash guards will be provided by Liquid Yoga + Surf.
Tapas Bar is an independently owned restaurant at Casa Islena. The chef changes the menu often depending on what is fresh, local and organic. They also minimize the use of plastics by encouraging consumption of filtered water. Dinner is available at Tapas Bar for $35 per person (taxes & gratuity included) or you can explore other restaurants in the area.
Other things to do Scuba diving, snorkeling, horse back riding, mountain biking, swimming, para-sailing, wind surfing, long walks, and shopping (town is a 10-minute taxi ride). Sunsets are not to be missed.
Travel Fly to Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. Jet Blue has direct flights from New York (JFK) to Aguadilla (BQN). Roundtrip $250-$400. A driver will pick you up at the airport; it’s a 30-minute ride to Casa Islena. A car rental is not needed unless you want to explore on your own. Early Bird $599 includes 3 nights/4 days double occupancy lodging at Casa Islena, taxes, airport transfers, daily breakfast and twice-daily yoga with Adi Carter. Final $699 starting Oct 1. Deposit available for final price, pay $399.50 now, pay the balance October 31.
